The Department of Microbiology in association with the Microbiologists Society, India, celebrated International Microorganisms Day by organizing a webinar on “Recent Trends in Genetic Engineering” for undergraduate Microbiology students on 17th September 2025. The session was led by Assistant Professor, Department of Microbiology, Dr. MGR Janaki College of Arts and Science for Women, Chennai. She provided valuable insights into advanced gene-editing technologies such as ZFNs, TALENs, and CRISPRs, emphasizing their applications in disease prevention and the development of disease-resistant crops. The interactive online quiz added an engaging element, fostering active participation and deeper understanding among students. The webinar proved highly informative and enriching, enhancing students’ awareness of the latest innovations shaping the field of genetic engineering.
