07.03.2024 - INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CULTURAL AND LITERARY STUDIES
The International Conference on Cultural and Literary Studies, held at St. Anne’s Arts and Science College on 7th March 2024, brought together scholars, researchers, and practitioners from around the world to discuss and explore various dimensions of cultural and literary studies from the departments of Tamil and English. The conference provided a platform for interdisciplinary dialogue, fostering collaborations, and sharing insights into the diverse aspects of culture and literature.
The chief guests for the inaugural ceremony were Mr Mustafa Armnazi and Dr Vaani Arivalan from the departments of English and Tamil. Mr Mustafa Armnazi is an English Language Teacher and Researcher from Syria and Dr Vaani Arivaalan is a Tamil Professor from the University of Madras.
In their inaugural addresses, the chief guests examined how cultural identities are constructed, represented, and negotiated in literature, media, and other forms of artistic expression. The inaugural ceremony was followed by presentation of papers by participants in-person and virtually from various institutions in allocated venues headed by session chairs. After the successful completion of the forenoon session, the valedictory ceremony began at 2:30 pm for which Ms Raya Ali, English Language Researcher and Teacher was the chief guest. Ms. Raya, in her valedictory address spoke about the construct of culture and its significance in shaping identities in literature and how it also renders it helpful to the learning of L2 for learners. The valedictory ceremony concluded with the distribution of certificates for presentations, best papers and the national anthem.
The International Conference on Cultural and Literary Studies served as a vibrant forum for engaging discussions, intellectual exchange, and critical reflections on the intersections of culture and literature. By bringing together scholars from diverse backgrounds and disciplines, the conference contributed to the advancement of knowledge in the field and fostered a sense of community among researchers committed to exploring the complexities of cultural expression and representation.
