On January 8th, 2025, the Departments of English and Tamil at St. Anne’s Arts and Science College hosted a national conference titled “The Global Feminist Imagination: Literature as a Force for Change.” The conference brought together scholars, students, and literary enthusiasts to explore the transformative impact of literature in advancing feminist ideologies globally.
The event featured 102 research papers—50 from English and 52 from Tamil. The conference was inaugurated with a keynote address by Dr. S. Armstrong, Member VC Convener Committee, Professor, Department of Tamil, University of Madras, emphasizing literature’s role in challenging patriarchal norms. Parallel sessions were held both in person and online, facilitating widespread participation. The event concluded with a valedictory session led by Dr. Y Manikandan, Professor and Head, Department of Tamil, University of Madras, who released the conference proceedings and CD. Certificates were awarded to presenters and attendees, marking the successful completion of the conference. This event underscored the power of literature in addressing feminist issues and the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in advancing global feminist thought.
