13.01.2025 - PONGAL CELEBRATION'25
The harvest festival was celebrated with great enthusiasm on the 13th of January 2025 at the college premises. The day was a vibrant tribute to Tamil Nadu's rich cultural heritage, filled with traditional activities and festive cheer. The day kicked off with Rev. Mother. Dr. Leema Rosario, Chairperson lighting the wood-fired stove to start the Pongal making. Followed by mesmerizing performances of traditional Tamil Nadu dance forms like Karagattam, Thappattam, Devarattam, Silambattam, Kummiyadi, Oyilattam, Bharathanatyam, Kuchipudi, Veeranatiyam, Kolattam and Kambathuaatam which captivated the audience and showcased the cultural essence of Pongal. Students dressed in colourful attire brought the stage to life with their graceful movements and rhythmic choreography, adding charm to the occasion.
One of the main highlights of the day was the Pongal making competition, organized department wise. Each department prepared the traditional sweet dish with dedication and creativity, filling the atmosphere with the delightful aroma of freshly cooked Pongal. Adding to the festive mood was the department wise Rangoli competition. Students created intricate and vibrant Rangoli designs that beautifully depicted the essence of Pongal.
A unique attraction of the day was the bullock cart rides, which provided a glimpse into the traditional village lifestyle of Tamil Nadu. Students eagerly participated in the rides, making it a memorable and enriching experience. Uri Adithal game was conducted where a pot is hung from a height, and blindfolded participants try to break it with a stick, often accompanied by cheering and distractions from the crowd. The Pongal celebration at St. Anne's Arts and Science College was a grand success, bringing together students, faculty, and staff to honour tradition and promote cultural pride.
