13.08.2024 - GUEST LECTURE ON CONOPY OF INDIAN LITERATURE
On August 13, 2024, the Department of English had the privilege of hosting a guest lecture on the topic Canopy of Indian Literature. The lecture was delivered by Ms. K Makeshwari, Assistant Professor of English from KCS Kasi Nadar College of Arts and Science, a distinguished scholar known for her expertise in Indian literature. Ms. Makeshwari began by providing an overview of the vast and diverse landscape of Indian literature, highlighting the various literary periods and its rich history and evolution over centuries. She emphasized the importance of understanding the cultural and historical contexts that have shaped Indian literary traditions. She delved into the advent of colonial literature, and the rise of modern Indian writing in English. Ms. Makeshwari also discussed the works of prominent Indian authors, including Rabindranath Tagore, Raja Rao, Kamala Markandaya and Bama, illustrating their contributions to global literature. She presented how Indian literature reflects the country diverse languages, cultures, philosophies and socio-economic condition. The lecture also explored various genres, including poetry, drama, and fiction, showcasing the richness and complexity of Indian literature. The session also had an interactive discussion, where students gained valuable insights into the multifaceted nature of Indian literature. The guest lecture was a resounding success, inspiring attendees to delve deeper into the study of Indian literary heritage.
