The YRC/NSS/RRC and the Health Club of the college initiated a webinar to remember the Poshan Abiyan Scheme of the Government of India on the 3^rd of October, 2020. The topic chosen for the day was “Nutraceuticals - The New Generation Therapeutics!" Dr. T.Shri Vijaya Kirubha, M.Pharm., Ph.D., Head, Department of Pharmacognosy, R & D Director, NSS / RRC Programme Officer, Periyar College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Tiruchirappalli was the guest speaker for the webinar session which was attended by around 150 club members of the college across the departments.

The speaker explained about Nutraceuticals which are products derived from food sources with extra health benefits in addition to the basic nutritional value found in foods. She also spoke about many natural substances which shows evidences of potential health. Healthy Diet to be maintained by college students was also discussed by the speaker. She emphasized the major use of herbal medicines for health promotion and therapy for chronic, as opposed to life-threatening, conditions. She added that, usage of traditional remedies increases when conventional medicine is ineffective in the treatment of disease, such as in advanced cancer and in the face of new infectious diseases. It was a very educative and fascinating session as the students enjoyed asking a lot of question and clarified their doubts.
